Avera's Los Cabos Project

Avera's interest in the work in Los Cabos began in 2003 when Tom Walsh of Sioux Falls called attention to the needs for medical, educational and humanitarian assistance for the children, their families and supportive organization of the Los Cabos area.  At his invitations, a team of Avera administrators and physicians visited the hospitals and free clinics in the area.  What they saw there were clinicians who provided dedicated and competent care, through the facilities lacked rudimentary equipment and supplies.  Avera's initial response involved sending much needed supplies, such as stethoscopes, inflatable splints, wheelchairs, gurneys, blood pressure cuffs, defibrillators, ventilators, glucometers and infusion pumps.

Avera has chosen to make this mission a focus of our organization-wide efforts.  As a health ministry sponsored by the Benedictine and Presentation Sisters, we look beyond our borders to those neighbors whose needs are far greater than our own.  The Avera Foundation contributes funds, medical equipment and supplies to local hospitals and other humanitarian efforts in the Los Cabos area.
