Our Ministry
From Gospel times to the present, care of the sick has been seen as a special calling and privilege. Avera's sponsors, the Benedictine Sisters and the Presentation Sisters, encourage all Avera caregivers to understand their work as a healing ministry and to demonstrate, by their words and actions, God's love for all people.
Avera fosters attention to spirituality in its employees through mission leadership development programs, discussions of ethical issues, articles in the employee newsletter and opportunities for private and group prayer. Avera also sponsors several ministry-related programs available to all interested people:
- The annual Avera Ethics Conference hosts nationally-prominent speakers on ethical topics.
- The Avera Parish Nurse Center provides support and education for parish nurses.
- The Avera Clinical Pastoral Education program offers accredited education for those engaged in pastoral care.
