Certified Nurse Midwifery

Avera Nurse Midwives offer personalized services to women not only during pregnancy but throughout the course of their lifespan. Midwives independently manage women’s health care within a system that allows for physician collaboration or referral.

Pregnancy and Childbirth

During your pregnancy, midwives follow the same course of prenatal care including prenatal visits, lab work, ultrasounds, etc. There are some advantages to seeing a midwife during your pregnancy. A midwife will provide labor support to you in the hospital during labor and they attend their own patients' births. Midwives work closely with Perinatologists and OB/GYN's if complications arise and stay with you if intervention is needed.

Annual Well Woman Care

Women of all ages can see a Certified Nurse Midwife for their annual physical exam including pap smears, breast and pelvic exams, complete health history and general wellness counseling. Certified Nurse Midwives are able to screen for and treat vaginal infections, menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain and PMS. They are also available to talk to you about the risks and benefits of family planning options.
