STEPPS Program

Our STEPPS program was designed to help people with borderline personality disorder or traits. Other personality traits could require treatment if issues with relationships, unstable mood regulation, or impulsive behaviors are observed.

The program's training teaches patients skills that help them function with more independence in the community.

This training is composed of three steps:

  • Step 1: Awareness of the disorder. The first step is to gain an awareness of the feelings (that can be managed) and the behaviors (that can be changed)
  • Step 2: Emotion Management Training. We describe the five basic skills that aid in managing the cognitive and emotional effects of the disorder
  • Step 3: Behavior Management Training. The patient can learn or relearn patterns of managing episodes by mastering seven behavior skill areas
