Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in Adults and Seniors

ADHD is a problem with inattentiveness, over-activity, impulsivity, or some combination of these. Through our assessment and observation process, we can help determine which (if any) will be the best course of treatment for an adult with ADHD.

Avera Behavioral Health Center wants to help you and your family to find practical solutions and a customized treatment program - all in an active, engaging environment. And you can feel confident in knowing that everything we do is backed by our staff of compassionate, highly-trained professionals.

ADHD is a long-term, chronic condition. About half of the children with ADHD will continue to have troublesome symptoms of inattention or impulsivity as adults. However, adults are often more capable of controlling behavior and masking difficulties.

Statistics show that there is an increased incidence of juvenile delinquency and adult encounters with the law among individuals who had ADHD as a child.

I am concerned I or a loved one may have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Is it necessary to visit the physician for medications or a therapist for counseling?

Research studies have shown that the best treatment plan would usually include both counseling and medications. While medications ease the symptoms, therapy would focus on making behavioral changes. If you are concerned about you or a loved one and would like to talk more specifically about your situation please call our FREE 24 hour, confidential Assessment Line at 605-322-4065 or 1-800-691-4336.
