Principal Investigator: Thomas Riperda, MD

Sub-Investigators: Steven T. Guse, MD; Jonathan D. Stone, MD; Erin Strufing, PA-C; Julie Van Dam, CNP

Overview: The purpose of this research study is to assess the effectiveness of partial weight-supported treadmill training in an acute traumatic brain injury population.

The study hypothesis is that functional mobility and gait deficits in patients who have experienced a traumatic brain injury will improve more rapidly with partial weight-supported treadmill training.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Males and females, ages 18-65
  • Moderate or maximal assistance for ambulation and transfers

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Onset of traumatic brain injury greater than 8 weeks before study enrollment
  • Females who are pregnant
  • Normal gait pattern
  • Severe cardiac problems preventing safe participation in treadmill training
  • Non-ambulatory before traumatic brain injury
