Study Description: A Study of Maternal Weight Gain and Infant Birth Weight in Mothers Receiving Structured Institute of Medicine Modeled Nutrition and Related Education during their Pregnancy Compared to Maternal Weight Gain and Infant Birth Weight in Mothers Receiving Standard Prenatal Care
Overview: Perinatologists recognize the benefit of healthy weights in their pre-pregnant women and are looking for better ways to limit weight gain during pregnancy to improve health outcomes for both the mother and the child. Maternal obesity is associated with increased complications of pregnancy, labor and delivery, abnormally large body size of the infant, late fetal death, and birth defects.
The purpose of this clinical research study is to determine if an intervention concerning exercise, dietary and nutrition education is effective at limiting excessive weight gain during pregnancy.
Participants in this study will receive the exercise, dietary and nutrition education at no charge.
